If there could be a place that embodies the essence of Ithaca, the Ithaca Farmer’s Market would be it. It is an open air building, where on the weekends you’ll find local vendors selling their delicious goods. After the vendors pack up and head home, weddings are held with beautiful décor, delicious food and an amazing party.
Yoanna and Eric celebrated their marriage at the Ithaca Farmer’s Market on a summer day in August and it was perfection.
Yoanna, Eric, family and friends, prepped for the wedding at Fountain Place Ithaca, a stunning mansion that used to be the Ithaca College President’s residence. Yoanna got ready upstairs in a room full of natural light, while Eric and his friends prepared for the wedding day on the first floor. After a touching first look with her father, Yoanna met Eric outside for a joyful first look and hug attack.
Yoanna and Eric headed over to the Ithaca Farmer’s Market for their wedding ceremony. As guests started to arrive, I noticed everyone showed up in bright, vibrant and fun outfits! Eric and Yoanna requested that guests dress colorfully and did they ever. I LOVED IT.
One of the best parts of having your wedding ceremony at the Ithaca Farmer’s market is that you can have it right on the lake. Talk about the perfect background.
Yoanna and Eric were married in front of a handmade alter covered in insanely gorgeous floral and feather pieces put together by Yoanna’s aunt (these pieces were also featured in the reception)! Furthermore, Yoanna and Eric incorporated Bulgarian traditions into their ceremony.
PHOTO TIP/ADVICE – The Ithaca farmer’s market ceremony location is backlit. This means the sun is behind the couple while they are getting married. Backlight and water (which is extra reflective) can be really tricky earlier in the day and more so if there aren’t any clouds in the sky. Always talk to your photographer to make sure they know how to work in this situation! You can also plan your ceremony later in the evening to take advantage of that beautiful golden hour light.
There are so many places to take photos around the Ithaca Farmer’s Market, but I am of course especially drawn to the dock. I love the lakeside images both looking out at the lake and back towards the market. I also couldn’t resist doing a sweet portrait with the twinkle lights inside the market!
Can you tell I love photographing weddings in Ithaca? Ithaca is the reason I ended up in New York. It’s where I first went out on my own, where I met my husband and fell in love. Ithaca holds a large piece of my heart. I’m constantly grateful to be able to photograph weddings there frequently.
