Styled sessions are very popular in the wedding world. They are a place for vendors to collaborate and connect, as well as a space to try out new techniques, or even to just bring a vision to life. I’ll admit I haven’t done many styled sessions before, but last winter it was dreary and grey and I wanted to be inspired. I wanted to photograph, and I wanted to photograph color, and use lights, and have fun. I wanted time to create (which can be hard to get on a wedding day). And so I teamed up with Courtney of Crown Coordination who brought my Gilded Club wedding to life.
When I met with Courtney I told her I wanted color. Lots of color. I wanted deep rich color. Jewel tones floated through my head when I thought of it. So we picked a palette and went to town. I also knew I wanted a darker moody vibe for the session. I wanted to be able to showcase different uses of light. We reached out to the Gilded Club and after touring it, we knew it was the perfect place. With lots of nooks and crannies it made this styled session so much fun.
It was important to me during this styled session, that it mirror aspects that could actually be recreated in a real wedding. I loved the Gilded Club as a location because it was unique and fun, but also an actual event space. Though primarily known as a downtown speakeasy, they do host private events and it would make a perfect spot for a small intimate wedding.
Overall I am OBSESSED with the way this shoot came together. The vendor team (linked below) was amazing to work with, as were my lovely friends/models. And of course Courtney was a rockstar in orchestrating most of this. It was such a fun experience to create and collaborate and I look forward to more sessions like this in the future with all of the other amazing talent in CNY.
